What is Chemical Damp Proofing?

There are a number of solutions for damp issues – the solutions depend though on what kind of damp issue the property is affected by. In most cases though where rising damp has been diagnosed there may be a need to install a new damp proof course. Following on from of our previous blog post on Electro Osmotic Damp Proofing, we now take a look at a different method of installing a damp proof course (or DPC)  –  chemical damp proofing.

What is chemical damp proofing?

Chemical damp proofing refers to the injection of a damp proof course using a damp proof cream as opposed to a physical damp proof course. Our product, known as Driwise, cures within the masonry wall to develop an impervious shield to rising dampness, this prevents moisture coming up from the ground into the cured walls. Adjoining abutting walls can also be isolated by applying a vertical damp proof course.

How is a chemical damp proof course installed?

The cream is injected directly into the affected wall. Having drilled a line of small, clean holes placed above ground level the holes are then filled with the Driwise solution using a low pressure injection method as can be seen in the photo to the left.

Once installed, the cream uses the moisture in the damp wall to diffuse before curing to form a water-repellent resin. It is a considerably faster acting system, requiring no solvent or water to enable injection to proceed.

Installation has minimal preparation and application time, resulting in minimal disruption to the occupants of any property as well as ensuring peace of mind and a satisfied customer.

What are the benefits of chemical damp proofing?

A completed chemical damp proof course

  •  A considerably faster acting system than other damp proofing methods, requiring no solvent or water.
  • Offers a higher degree of protection against rising damp than the old fluid injection systems that it is designed to replace.
  • A simple installation with minimum disturbance to the property
  •  Not injected under pressure, making it a low hazard, cleaner and safer solution to use than conventional chemical injection systems.
  • Non-caustic and non-flammable without spillage.
  • Odourless
  • Long-term guarantee.
